полагать, что тест - это только контроль. В настоящее время существуют и постоянно появляются методики, где овладение языком происходит через разнообразные виды тестирования. Поэтому информация рассылки поможет Вам не только проверить свои познания, но и повысить свой уровень, продолжив
изучение языка. Для этой цели тесты сопровождаются грамматическими комментариями, дающими целостное представление о том или ином языковом явлении.
Работая с тестами, нужно помнить, что каждый тест имеет свой номер. Это необходимо для проверки тестов, так как в последующих рассылках будут указываться номера тестов и ответы к ним. Little Mary was attending a wedding for the first time. As she sat in the church, she watched the bride slowly approach the altar. Mary whispered to her mother,
"Why is the bride dressed in white?"
"Because white is the color of happiness, and today is the happiest day of her life," her mother tried to explain, keeping it simple.
The child thought about this for a moment, then said....
"So why is the groom wearing black?"
A blonde goes into work one morning crying her eyes out. Her boss, concerned about all his employees' well being, asked sympathetically, "What's the matter?"
To which the blonde replies, "Early this morning I got a phone call saying that my mother had passed away."
The boss, feeling very sorry at this point, explains to the young girl, "Why don't you go home for the day. We aren't terribly busy. Just take the day off to relax and rest."
The blonde very calmly states, "No, I'd be better off here. I need to keep my mind off it, and I have the best chance of doing that here."
The boss agrees and allows the blonde to work as usual, "If you need anything, just let me know."
Well, a few hours pass and the boss decides to check on the blonde. He looks out over his office and sees the blonde hysterically crying.
He rushes out to her asking, "What's so bad now? Are you going be OK?"
"No!" exclaims the blonde. "I just got a call from my sister. She told me that HER mom died
too!"
A couple drove several miles down a country road, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument, and neither wanted to concede their position.
As they passed a barnyard of mules and pigs, the wife sarcastically asked, "Relatives of yours?"
"Yep," the husband replied, "In-laws."
Long ago, when sailing ships ruled the waves, a captain and his crew were in danger of being boarded by a pirate ship. As the crew became frantic, the captain bellowed to his First Mate, 'Bring me my red shirt!' The First Mate quickly retrieved the captain's red shirt, which the captain put on and led the crew to battle the pirate boarding party. Although some casualties occurred among the crew, the pirates were repelled. Later that day, the lookout screamed that there were two pirate vessels sending boarding parties. The crew cowered in fear, but the captain, calm as ever bellowed, 'Bring me my red shirt!' And once again the battle was on. However, the Captain and his crew repelled both boarding parties, though this time more casualties occurred.
Weary from the battles, the men sat around on deck that night recounting the day's occurrences when an ensign looked to the Captain and asked, 'Sir, why did you call for your red shirt before the battle?' The Captain, giving the ensign a look that only a captain can give, exhorted, 'If I am wounded in battle, the red shirt does not show the wound and thus, you men will continue to fight unafraid.' The men sat in silence marveling at the courage of such a man. As dawn came the next morning, the lookout screamed that there were pirate ships, 10 of them, all with boarding parties on their way. The men became silent and looked to the Captain, their leader, for his usual command.
The Captain, calm as ever, bellowed, 'Bring me my brown pants!'

THE ERECTION OF THE STATUE OF LIBERTY
The hundredth anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in
(1879) in the USA gave Edouard de Laboulaye, a French writer on American
history and life, (-1-) opportunity to propose the erection of a memorial to
commemorate the alliance of the two countries. Audustie Bartholdi, a young
French sculptor, was selected to plan and execute the memorial. After his (-2-)
first visit to (-3-) New York he decided to erect a colossal statue of (-4-)
liberty upon one of the islands in the harbour.
Acting on this suggestion (-5-) French began to raise funds for the
construction of such a statue. The task proved to be greater than had been
expected and the statue was not completed at Paris until (-6-) July 4, 1884.
Meanwhile, the American committee was raising funds for the construction of
the pedestal. The money was secured in 1886. After that statue had been
dismantled in Paris, it was shipped to New York aboard (-7-) French ship to be

Incoming and outgoing ships pass near it - the figure of a woman who has
just won her freedom. Grasping a burning torch in her right hand and in her
left holding a book of law inscribed July 4, 1776, she is represented as a

The statue is forty-six meters high - not counting the pedistal it stands
on. The pedestal itself is also about forty-six metres. (-9-) hollow in the
